Naylor Family Farm Opens for Fall, and It’s Worth the Drive Down 401

She started it on Instagram in 2020 to spotlight what local businesses were doing, and it grew into a guide to the whole Triangle: weekend plans, new openings, parks and patios, and the small businesses worth your money. If it is on this site, she would send a friend there.

Fall snuck up on me this year. One week it was still ninety degrees and sticky, and the next I drove past Naylor Family Farm on 401 and saw the sign go up: open for the season starting September 19th. That is this Saturday, and if you know me at all, you know I have already blocked off the morning.

I have lived in Fuquay-Varina long enough to have opinions about the fall farms in this area, and Naylor is the one I keep coming back to. Part of it is proximity, it sits right off US-401 at 6016 US-401, close enough that it barely counts as a drive. But mostly it is because the place has not tried to turn itself into a theme park. It is still a working farm that opens its gates for a couple of months a year, and you can feel the difference the second you park in the field.

The corn maze is the draw, and it earns the hype. It is big enough that you actually have to pay attention, which is exactly what you want on a Saturday morning when the only plan is to wander and get a little lost with your kids or your dog or your third cup of coffee. Around the maze there is a petting zoo, a few slides, and enough open space that nobody is standing in line for forty minutes just to pet a goat. The 2026 fall season runs September 19th through November 1st, and tickets go through their online system, so I would grab those ahead of a weekend visit rather than showing up and hoping. Weekends here fill up fast once word gets around, and word is officially getting around now.

If you want to make a whole day of it, Naylor is a great anchor for a Fuquay-Varina fall loop. I wrote recently about the two downtowns of Fuquay-Varina, and honestly, farm in the morning, downtown in the afternoon, is close to a perfect Saturday. Grab lunch, poke around the shops, and let the corn maze be the excuse to get everyone out of the house before you do the parts of the day that involve sitting down.

For the pumpkin people who want options beyond one farm, a couple of others near here are worth knowing about. Porter Farms and Nursery sells pumpkins and mums at their Willow Spring and Raleigh locations, and you will also find their pumpkins at the State Farmers Market if you are already headed that way for produce. And if you are more of a u-pick, wander-the-rows type, DJ’s Berry Patch in Apex does pumpkins and mums too, though with farms the schedule can shift with the weather, so a quick call or a check of their page before you drive over is worth it.

None of this is complicated advice. Fall in the Triangle is short and it gets crowded fast once everyone remembers it exists, so the move is to just go early in the season rather than waiting for the perfect crisp sixty-degree day that may or may not show up before Halloween. Naylor opening this weekend is your sign. Get the tickets, wear shoes you do not mind getting dusty, and give yourself more time in the maze than you think you need. You will get turned around at least once. That is the whole point.

If you make it out this weekend, I would love to hear how the maze treated you, and whether you found your way out faster than I usually do. Tag The Raleigh Local or send me a note. I am always collecting the next spot for the list.
