Somewhere in the last few years, my work life turned into a rotating list of coffee shops. Some days it is because my house is too loud (three kids, one dog, zero quiet). Some days it is because I just need a change of scenery to actually finish something. Either way, I have spent enough hours hunting for a table with a working outlet near it that I figured I should just write down my real list of laptop-friendly coffee shops in the Triangle.

This is not a ranked “best of” list. It is my actual rotation, the places across the Triangle I go back to when I need to sit down and get real work done, plus a few outlying picks worth the drive. A few ground rules before we get into it: I am looking for a table I can camp at for a couple hours without feeling guilty, outlets I do not have to fight three other people for, and wifi that will not drop my Zoom call mid-sentence.
Raleigh: Laptop-friendly coffee shops I use every week
Heirloom Brewshop in the Warehouse District is probably my most-used spot. It is bright, it is spacious, and there are genuinely enough outlets that I have never had to ask a stranger to unplug their laptop charger so I could squeeze in. Get there before 10 on a weekday and you will have your pick of tables.
If Heirloom is full, Iris Coffee Lab on Tucker Street in Glenwood South is my backup. It is smaller and it gets busy during the lunch rush, but the bar seating has its own row of outlets and the light-filled, minimalist space keeps me from feeling boxed in even when every seat is taken. Their oat milk lattes are also just very good, which does not hurt.
For something a little more low-key, Pine State Coffee off Automotive Way has high-top community tables that are great for spreading out a laptop, notebook, and coffee without playing furniture Tetris, plus an outdoor patio for the handful of days a year our weather actually cooperates.
Fuquay-Varina and Garner: worth the drive south
Down in Fuquay-Varina, Cultivate Coffee Roasters on South Fuquay Avenue roasts its own beans and the wifi is genuinely fast, which matters more than people think when you are uploading files all day. Seating leans toward smaller two-top tables, so it is better for solo work than a group meeting, but there are umbrella-covered tables outside if the inside fills up.
In Garner, Full Bloom Coffee Roasters on West Main Street is the closest thing to a cozy home office you will find in a coffee shop. There are sofas as well as tables, the coverage is solid throughout, and it has become my go-to when I need a full afternoon somewhere quiet to knock out longer projects for TRL.
Wendell and Morrisville: the further-out finds
I will be honest, Parallax Coffee Lab in Wendell is a real drive if you are coming from central Raleigh, but if you are already out that way or you live nearby, it is worth building your day around. It has that eclectic, spacious feel that makes a couple hours pass without noticing, and the wifi has never given me trouble.
Closer to RTP, Fount Coffee + Kitchen in Morrisville is where I land when I have a midday meeting near the park. The interior is bright and sun-lit, the wifi is high-speed and reliable, and there is real food on the menu if you are trying to avoid a second trip out for lunch.
Durham and Chapel Hill, if you are headed that way
Cocoa Cinnamon on Chapel Hill Road in Durham has the most workable layout of anywhere on this list, several long rows of tables that were clearly built with coworking in mind. And in Carrboro, Open Eye Cafe has an honest abundance of tables and outlets along with strong wifi, which is exactly what you want when you are settling in for the long haul.
A couple of house rules
None of these places owe you a desk. If you are planted somewhere for three-plus hours, order more than one drink, tip well, and read the room during a rush. Most of these shops are small businesses run by people in our own community, and the whole reason this list exists is because they choose to welcome remote workers instead of turning the wifi password into a state secret. That is worth supporting.
If you have a spot I missed, especially somewhere out in Holly Springs, Apex, Knightdale, or Pittsboro that deserves a mention, reply to this post or send it my way. I am always looking to expand the rotation.

Keep exploring: things to do in Fuquay-Varina and what’s happening this weekend.
